On cloudy and rainy days, there are clever ways to dry garlic
Jun 08, 2023
Xuzhou 615000 mu garlic has been harvested and has entered the drying stage. However, the continuous rainy weather has had an impact on garlic harvesting and drying.
The agricultural technology centers in all towns of Pizhou City organized personnel to give on-site guidance to help garlic farmers dry garlic scientifically. When encountering cloudy and rainy days, everyone should flip the garlic twice more, or use plastic cloth and wooden sticks to support both ends, maintain regular ventilation, and prevent garlic from getting moldy.
On May 30th, Liu Zhuang, a member of the Agricultural Technology Center in Nianzhuang Town, came to the home of garlic farmer Chen Yingzhang and explained to him how to dry garlic on rainy days.
Chen Yingzhang planted 9 acres of garlic this year, and this time his agricultural technology came to his doorstep, he was filled with joy. We have agricultural technicians tracking and guiding us from applying medicine, fertilizing to drying, and we are very reassured
However, the recent continuous rainy weather has put higher demands on garlic drying. When it's cloudy and rainy, guide farmers to use plastic cloth to support tents, which is beneficial for garlic ventilation. If the rack for drying garlic is set low, it is necessary to clean the accumulated water in a timely manner to prevent moisture from returning and causing garlic to mold. When encountering continuous rainy days, one should flip garlic every two days; On sunny days, you can flip it once a week.
Strengthening management and scientific drying are important measures to ensure garlic quality. During the process of drying garlic, it is necessary to continuously observe and inspect, and promptly handle problems caused by weather or other reasons.
When it's not raining, open the film to prevent garlic from spoiling; When it rains lightly, you can set up a tent to ventilate and prevent garlic from spoiling; When the temperature is high, cover the garlic with a straw cover to prevent it from being exposed to the sun and damaging it.
